Flooring Installation Serving Berwyn, IL
The Floor 4U installs vinyl and laminate floors in Berwyn, IL. We are a flooring store and installer, owned and operated by Matt Pehr, independent and not a franchise. We come up to Berwyn from our Mokena and Frankfort showrooms, and the mobile showroom brings the samples to the house instead of you driving out to them.
Most houses here are brick Chicago bungalows. What sets the final price of a floor is a known list: the product, the square footage, removal, subfloor prep, trim, stairs and transitions. Age is a reason to look at that list carefully, not a reason to guess at it.
This page is for the homeowner who has already picked the material and now needs someone to install it. Laminate gets the same attention here as vinyl. Our other location pages are collected on the locations page.

What the price of a floor depends on in a Berwyn bungalow
Berwyn’s bungalow blocks went up mostly between 1900 and 1949. The Central Berwyn Bungalow Historic District covers 236 acres, and it joined the National Register of Historic Places on August 18, 2015. Most of its contributing buildings are brick Chicago bungalows.
Age tells you when the house was built. It never tells you what is under your floor. Nobody should guess that before looking at it.
Subfloor prep, transitions at doorways, and stairs are three of the named items on that list, which is why all three come up on the visit rather than afterwards. Removal of whatever is down now is a fourth. None of them is a number we will put on your rooms before seeing them.
Ask for a free in-home estimate. That visit is where the list above gets priced for your own house.
The work we do near the Depot District and the Lavergne stop
Berwyn’s Depot District is the walkable downtown built around three Metra stops. Those stops are Harlem Avenue, Berwyn, and LaVergne, all on the BNSF Line.
The jobs are ordinary and repeatable. Replacing a worn main-level floor in a bungalow near the LaVergne Metra station. A below-grade room where the old floor failed. Pulling carpet off a stair run and putting a hard surface down. Taking out old sheet vinyl in a kitchen and laying plank. Matching a new floor to an existing one at a doorway threshold. A laminate floor across two or three bedrooms.
We are not a Berwyn storefront. We come to Berwyn, which is the honest version of it. We also handle carpet installation and tile and stone installation when a project needs them.
The corridors into a Berwyn block, and what a map does not show
Cermak Road is Berwyn’s main commercial street. 33rd Street is another named Berwyn street, Ogden Avenue is an east and west business corridor carrying a portion of historic Route 66, and Roosevelt Road runs along the northern edge of the city.
Those corridors are how we come in. What no map shows is your own block, so tell us about it when you call. Where can a truck park and unload? Does the block carry a parking restriction? Is there an alley behind the house?
Say how many rooms you want done and what is on the floors now. Removal sits on the price list, so the second answer belongs in the estimate rather than after it.
Where your house sits, and what we will not put a number on
Tell us your nearest corner when you call, whether that is Proksa Park or MacNeal Hospital.
In a pre-1950 house the new floor meets old trim, and trim is one of the items on that price list. Stairs and transitions are two more of them.
What we will not do is price any of it sight unseen, or tell you what is under a floor that nobody has lifted yet.
How we reach Berwyn, and what happens after you call
Harlem Avenue, which carries Illinois Route 43, is the north and south corridor into town, and Harlem Avenue at Cermak Road is a heavily traveled commercial corner. The Berwyn Public Library sits on Harlem Avenue at 2701 South.
After you call, we come to the house. We measure the rooms, bring the samples with us, and price the job off that same list rather than off a flat square-foot number.

Vinyl and laminate are different calls in an older house
Lavergne is the one named neighborhood still in use here, and it has its own Metra stop. The Upsala settlement, now part of central Berwyn, is the other founding-era name. Housing in both is the same pre-1950 era, so the same two questions come up.
Luxury vinyl plank installation is the waterproof line in our catalog, which is the property a below-grade room is judged on. Laminate flooring installation suits main levels and bedrooms, and it is not the choice for a slab.
Both are lines we sell and install, so neither one has to be assumed. Room use and moisture decide it, not whichever sample stood out on a display. Tell us which rooms sit below grade, and we will bring both sets of samples to the house.
Click-lock marketing makes this look like a weekend job. Sometimes it is. In a house with an out-of-level floor and old trim, it usually is not.
