Modern Laminate & Waterproof Flooring Solutions
Today's laminate flooring offers convincing wood and stone looks with real durability, which is why it is one of the most popular floors we sell in Mokena. Laminate is a built-up plank rather than a solid one. A clear protective wear layer on top resists scratches and traffic, a printed image layer underneath reproduces the grain of wood or the veining of stone, a high-density or medium-density fiberboard core gives the plank its stability, and a backing layer acts as a moisture barrier so the plank does not cup or warp from below.
Durability and care. That wear layer is what lets laminate hold up in hallways, entryways and living rooms, and it is fade resistant, so sunlight will not wash the color out over time. Looking after it is simple: sweep or vacuum to lift grit, then damp mop rather than wet mop, because water left sitting at a seam is the one thing that ends a laminate floor early. The AC rating is the number to ask for. AC3 suits bedrooms and light-use rooms, while AC4 and AC5 are what hold up in kitchens, hallways and mudrooms. Plan on 15 to 25 years in a busy family home.
Range, cost, and the trade-off. Laminate comes in wood-look, tile-look and stone-look finishes, so most rooms can get a high-end look for less than the material it imitates, and it can go down on any level of the home, including basements and kitchens, as long as the subfloor is properly prepared. It costs less than hardwood or stone both to buy and to fit. What it will not do is get sanded and refinished: a deep scratch or a worn patch means swapping planks rather than resurfacing them, and appraisers do not credit it the way they credit real wood. Today's wide-plank lines have moved a long way from the old glossy, obviously repeating boards, using embossed-in-register texture that follows the printed grain, matte finishes and underlayment that quiets the step, so compare boards in person under your own lighting.
