Moisture Barrier Under LVP: A Naperville Basement Install
Video by The Floor 4U. Do you need a moisture barrier under luxury vinyl plank (LVP) in a basement? This Naperville, Illinois project shows one going down over the concrete before the new floor.
The footage starts on a bare basement slab. The floor gets swept clean, then plastic sheeting goes down and planks are laid over it one row at a time. It ends on the finished wood-look floor. The video description names the flooring as IFC Bear Creek Oak.

The description makes one point worth keeping: waterproof luxury vinyl does not automatically eliminate moisture concerns beneath the floor. The need for a barrier comes down to the flooring system, the moisture in the concrete, and the manufacturer's installation requirements. This clip shows one job's method. It does not show moisture readings or the product's installation guide, so the linked guide covers how to decide for your own basement.

Do you need a moisture barrier under LVP? It depends on the flooring system. For this Naperville basement, we installed one.
First, clean the floor. Double-stick adhesive, then plastic down as your moisture barrier.
Then lay the first three rows. Stop and check it for straightness. Then lay the rest, row by row.
Barrier first, then floor, and that’s a dry, straight basement.
